It\u2019s 8th September! So what?<\/p> \n \n
You might ask, what is the reason that make today\u2019s date special?<\/p> \n \n
8th September is the feast day of St. Stephen in Prato. Actually, St. Sephen\u2019s day is 26th \nDecember, but it\u2019s celebrated solemnly the day of the Nativity of Mary<\/p> \n \n
Usually, 8th of September is a celebration day in the whole town of Prato; it used to be a \nclosing day for many commercial activities and businesses until a few years ago: \nuncommon thing, since people of Prato\u2019s passion for their job<\/p> \n \n
Leaving this nostalgic revocation aside, if you fancy going for a walk in Prato, you\u2019ll find an \nOld Town full of historical monuments and on 8th September you can get a chance to see \nthe holy relic so deeply venerated in town.<\/p> \n \n
But, did I mention what\u2019s the relic I\u2019m talking about? It\u2019s the Holy girdle,<\/strong> a green wool-made
\nbelt that belonged to Mary<\/p>

\n Did you know that in 1438 Donatello and Michelozzo<\/strong> created a dedicated external pulpit<\/strong> to
\nshow people the relic? And even today, after many centuries, the bishop shows the relic
\nfrom the same pulpit.<\/p>
\n
\n After the ceremony, you may even want to do somenthing else: you could take the
\nopportunity to pop into the church and take a glance at Agnolo Gaddi\u2019s frescoes<\/strong>. These
\nwall paintings tell about how the Holy girdle got to the town of Prato.<\/p>
\n
\n Or, you may visit the Museum of Opera del Duomo, see the vaults, the cloister, the artgallery. What is considered the centerpiece of the Museum is Donatello\u2019s and Michelozzo\u2019s<\/strong>
\noriginal pulpit.<\/strong><\/p>
\n
\n It goes without saying that a proper tour must also include more! Probably, it will be tea
\ntime and you may step into one of the pastry shops of the Old town and taste the so called
\npesche di Prato, a traditional dessert.<\/strong> Or you could rather go for some cantucci, if you like.<\/p>
